So if you've watched For Christal with Love you know that Married at First Sight is one of my favorite shows to discuss. Yes I am a helpless romantic by nature, but life and experience have taught me that there are no such thing as fairytales and yes love is beautiful but it's also hard work! In other words if you want your real life love story to resemble a fairytale, you have to be willing to put in the WORK!
In season 11 of MAFS, we saw a very beautiful Karen introduced to a very handsome Miles. While Miles was excited and immediately attracted to Karen, she had the opposite initial reaction. Karen had an "mental picture" of what her significant other looked like and how he presented himself and showed up in their courtship and that mental picture didn't resemble Miles in any way, form or fashion. Karen was honest with Miles and the experts about her disconnect even at the expense of hurting Miles feelings.
Karen's interactions with Miles were cold and distant throughout the season. Although Miles was very physically attracted to Karen, he eventually had to admit that because she wasn't loving towards him, she may not be able to fulfill him as a wife after the MAFs experiment.
Most people (including myself) thought the couple may not make it past the initial trial period of the MAFS experiment. Surprisingly Karen and Miles not only said YES on decision day but their relationship has grown and blossomed over the the year and half since the season wrapped.
Karen and Miles relationship ended up being one of the SUPERSTAR couples from season 11 that have become a fan favorite. The couple was able to flip their hardship into the building blocks of love because of two reasons. The first is that Miles didn't give up on Karen although her actions for six weeks suggested that she wasn't emotionally available. Most of us are so quick to give up on something even if it there are signs that it could be amazing. Secondly, Karen remained true to herself and didn't lie for the sake of the experiment. This allowed her to slowly for a natural connection with Miles and her walls were able to organically come down, forming an even deeper bond between the two.
What's the lesson for us in this couple? It's quite simple, if you believe there could be something amazing in person don't be so quick to give up on them. (This isn't suggesting you should put up with abuse or degradation) but if the other person has quirks or has been hurt before...remember anything worth having is worth working for. Secondly you must be honest with yourself before you will EVER be able to be honest with a significant other. In other words don't fake the feelings. If you aren't feeling something say it. If you don't like something say it. Trust is the foundation of relationships and it is built on honesty. Kudos to Karen and Miles for illustrating this so beautifully....MAFS definitely got it right with this couple!
